Our History

The Green Bell Bed and Barn is part of the original Malatchie Farms, a sixth generation family farm. The Shack was built in 1934 by my grandfather, Walter Forbes and the Reverend Charlie Toomer. Quirky and comfortable, rooms were added as needed. Countless hunting and fishing parties, musicians, textile industry executives, friends and family members have enjoyed the shack. What tales these old walls could tell! Hospitality is an ongoing family tradition.

Malatchie’s farming history has been in timber, wildlife, row crops, Santa Gertrudis cattle and pecans. The bulk of the property was sold in 2001 but the “Hart” of Malatchie remains at the Green Bell!
